Waiting Lists for Care

Those in need of specialized care are placed on a waiting list according to the seriousness of their condition.

If a person has a very serious illness, the family doctor and the specialist work together to adjust the waiting list so that care can be given more
quickly. Others whose health concern is less critical will receive care in an appropriate timeframe so that their condition does not worsen.

A family doctor can also use the e-consultation service to consult with a specialist to refine the patient’s diagnosis and determine treatment. It’s also very important for patients to notify their health care institutions if they are for some reason unable to get to an appointment or treatment. With proper notification (at least 24 hours prior) the appointment time can be cancelled, and other patients can get their medical care more quickly.

If an individual feels that they have not received necessary medical care, it is important for them to turn to the Health Insurance Fund so that the situation can be explained from the fund’s side.

To convey the problem, a digitally signed application must be sent to info [at] haigekassa.ee (info[at]tervisekassa[dot]ee).
