Pregnant women

A woman living in Estonia is entitled to health insurance if her pregnancy has been confirmed by a doctor or a midwife.

Health insurance becomes valid as of the date the entry is made in the Health Insurance Database.
The Health Insurance Fund will make the entry within 5 working days after receiving correctly completed documents.

Health insurance ends 3 months after the expected date of childbirth determined by the doctor or midwife.

You can submit the pregnancy certificate and application:

The pregnancy certificate must include the following information:

  • name of the healthcare provider, address of location, and activity licence number;
  • name of the doctor or midwife, registration certificate number, and contact details;
  • first and last name of the pregnant woman and personal identification code;
  • duration of the pregnancy in weeks;
  • expected date of childbirth;
  • date of issue of the certificate;
  • signature and stamp of the doctor or midwife.

You can check the validity of your health insurance in the service ‘My current account with the Health Insurance Fund’ of the state portal eesti.ee, by phoning the Health Insurance Fund’s customer service (+372) 669 6630.
