A spouse dependent upon an insured person (through children)
A legally married dependent spouse of an insured person has the right to health insurance if they are raising:
- at least one child under the age of 8
- an 8-year-old child up to finishing the first grade
- at least three children under the age of 16
A person on whom an individual depends must be insured as an employee, a person receiving remuneration or service fees on a basis of a contract under the law of obligations, as a member of the management body of a legal person, or as a self-employed person.
Please note that if an employed spouse is receiving parental allowance at the same time, it is not possible to get health insurance through them being employed. Additional information can be found here.
In order to get health insurance, documents must be submitted to the Social Insurance Board, who will forward the data required for the formalisation of insurance to the Health Insurance Fund. Please call the Social Insurance Board on the number 612 1360 or see their website www.sotsiaalkindlustusamet.ee for additional information on the documents.
Insurance will commence upon making the entry into the health insurance database.
Insurance will be terminated after one month when the conditions that give the right to health insurance are not met. The data is submitted by the Social Insurance Board.
You can check the validity of your health insurance in the service ‘My current account with the Health Insurance Fund’ of the state portal eesti.ee, by phoning the Health Insurance Fund’s customer service (+372) 669 6630.
